January 2021 update
St. Tim's offers several fun, faith-building seasonal activities for all children. Due to Covid-19 adaptations, some children's activities during the 2020-2021 school year will be cancelled or reformatted for the safety of all. Check this page for updates as the public health situation evolves. For more information on children's activities, contact Kristen Raaen in the parish office.
The St. Tim’s Kids' Book Club for children in grades 3-5 will meet on February 27th to discuss Lois Walfrid Johnson’s Escape into the Night. Ms. Johnson is a Minnesotan author who writes Christian- based historical adventures. Escape into the Night is the first book in Johnson’s Freedom Seekers (previously titled The Riverboat Adventures) series. The series takes place on a steamboat on the Mississippi River in the time leading up to the Civil War. As the main character learns about the world around her, she is exposed to the evils of slavery. She becomes a conductor on the Underground Railroad, helping smuggle escaped slaves to freedom.
“It’s 1857 and Libby Norstad has come to live on her father’s steamboat, the Christina. Libby isn’t sure she’s going to like her new life on the Mississippi River. After all, how many girls her age live on a steamboat? And life isn’t any easier with Caleb, the cabin boy who’s always on some mysterious mission and who seems determined to make Libby miserable.
When a fugitive slave comes aboard, Libby and Caleb find themselves tangled up together in the Underground Railroad, trying to help Jordan escape from the slave catchers. But many miles lie between the riverboat and the free northern states. With bloodhounds sniffing their tracks, will they ever bring Jordan to safety?"
